McMichaels, Bryan Indicted by Grand Jury

Cobb County DA Joyette Holmes announced today in a press conference in front of the Glynn County Courthouse that Travis and Greg McMichael as well as WIlliam "Roddy" Bryan have each been indicted on nine charges in the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. All three are charged with malice murder, four counts of felony murder, and four felonies: two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. The Grand Jury, which was allowed to convene despite the courts being closed due to COVID-19, met in the Jury Assembly Room in order to be able to socially distance. Ms. Holmes said that the Grand Jury delivered a true bill on the charges after about ten minutes; deliberation.

Ms. Holmes said that the recently-passed Georgia hate crimes legislation will not apply to the Arbery shooting, as it took place before the law was passed.

After Ms. Holmes finished her announcement Kevin Gough, the attorney for Mr. Bryan, who recorded the shooting with his cell phone, to plead for a reasonable bond for his client.
