McIntosh Schools to Take "Pause"

The following notice was sent out today by McIntosh County Schools Superintendent Doctor Jim Pulos:

The McIntosh County School System will take a brief pause to allow for students and staff to recover from the impact of a high rate of COVID infections that we are experiencing throughout our community. The delta variant is extremely contagious and our high rate of infections is something that we must address immediately to stop the spread.

Effective tomorrow, August 18, 2021, through Friday, August 20, 2021, attendance at school will be optional for students. Teachers will be present each of these days developing plans for the pause period.

Each of the schools will have a deep cleaning conducted starting Friday evening through Tuesday, August 24, 2021. No one will be in the school buildings during those days.

Schools will offer continued instructional opportunities during the pause period of August 25, 2021 through September 3, 2021, and we have plans to commence school again on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Your school’s principal will provide information regarding what will take place during the pause period and thereafter. As well, students will need their Chromebooks to stay up on curriculum requirements.

The three optional days and the two days for cleaning should be used by parents to make arrangements for their child(ren) through September 6, 2021.

These are extremely challenging times for all of us due to this virus.

We must continue to provide a great educational opportunity for our students, but we must also do so safely.

Please contact your school administrator for questions regarding this pause.
