Former Glynn County Police Chief Carl Alexander has died after a lengthy battle with cancer. Alexander headed the county police department from 1987 till 2002. After his retirement, he was in charge of security at Sea Island. Having recently retired from his position with Sea Island, he was hired by the county in February to a six-month contract to serve as Special Advisor to the Glynn County Police Department. He was never able to serve in the role, however, as he was admitted to the hospital a short time after he was sworn in to the position. After his hospital stay, Alexander entered hospice care.
Continuing his service to the community in the law enforcement field, Alexander spent the last year heading up the Police Advisory Panel, a body assembled by the County Commission to give guidance to the police department in the wake of a number of scandals.
