The Brunswick Police Department has requested assistance from the GBI to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday shortly after 5pm in the downtown area.
Police report that a Brunswick officer saw a vehicle speeding in the downtown area and while searching for the vehicle, they came across Charles Eric Moses, Jr., 33, who was on foot. Moses ran after he saw the police.
As the on foot chase ensued, Moses began firing a gun at police, who then returned fire, striking Moses. Moses was then transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A weapon was recovered from the scene, no officers were injured. The body of the suspect is being transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia to have an autopsy conducted.
The GBI is conducting an independent investigation, after it's completion, it will be turned over to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
