Subject:Important COVID-19 Information: Please Read

Good afternoon, faculty, and staff. A staff member who works in our Information Technology department on the Brunswick campus has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member was last on campus on June 24,and is in quarantine at home. The employee is doing well at this time, and we are hopeful for a speedy recovery.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) has contacted individuals identified as being in close contact with the employee, and all impacted areas have been thoroughly sanitized. “Close contact” as defined by the GDPH includes:

·living in the same household as a sick person with COVID-19

·caring for a sick person with COVID-19

·being within 6 feet of a sick person with COVID-19for at least 15 minutes

·being in direct contact with secretions from a sick person with COVID-19 (e.g., being coughed on, kissing, sharing utensils, etc.)

Ifyou have tested positive for COVID-19 oryou have beenin close contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19, you should:

  1. Stay at home or, if you are on campus, leave work and return home; and
  2. Contact your supervisor as soon as possible.

The attached document provides additional reporting information for employees and supervisors.

As a reminder, we are following the protocols outlined in the Return to Campus Plan and guidance from the University System of Georgia that is informed by guidance from the GDPH and the CDC. Our plan contains information regarding what we are doing and will continue to do to protect our employees. If you have not read this document, I encourage you to do so. To access the current version of our plan, please refer to my “College Update” email from June 12, for instructions on accessing the portal. In lieu of additional emails as any additional positive cases impact our employees and students, we are working toward an alterative source for keeping you updated. As we have that in place, I will make sure you get the details.

Please remember to follow all health and safety guidelines, practice social distancing, and take care of yourselves.
