Doctors were shocked when X-rays showed hundreds of metal objects inside a man's stomach. According to the Daily Mail, the man was suffering from a psychotic episode and swallowed over 400 nuts, screws, and bolts. The metal objects filled his stomach, leaving him in immense pain as he suffered from constant vomiting.
Eventually, he was hospitalized because he was unable to eat or drink.
A report on the incident, which was published in the Journal of Medical Case Reports, said that doctors believe he swallowed over six pounds of metal objects during a three-month period.
The man underwent surgery at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz, Iraq, where doctors successfully removed the objects from his stomach. He was then transferred to a mental health facility for several weeks to receive treatment for his psychosis.
The report says that the man suffered no ill effects from eating the metal objects and made a full recovery.
"To our knowledge, the successful extraction of this amount of metal in Iran is unprecedented," the doctors wrote.
