Glynn Schools Will Not Make Up Missed Michael Day

From Glynn County Schools:

Brunswick, Ga. – As part of the 2018-2019 school calendar, the Glynn County Board of Education built-in discretionary “weather make-up” days for any lost instructional time as a result of weather cancellations. Due to the uncertainty of Hurricane Michael, a school closure was issued for Glynn County Schools on Thursday, Oct. 11.  With support from the Board of Education, we have decided not to make up the missed day.

“We acknowledge that many families and staff have already made plans and wanted to get this word out sooner rather than later.  We also want to acknowledge that our staff, as they always have, will work hard to make sure that any material missed will be covered,” said Superintendent Dr. Virgil Cole.

“We are extremely fortunate that we have been allowed to ‘excuse’ several days the last couple of years, which is a strong testament of the respect for our staff/teachers to professionally cover any missed content.  That said, if there are any further school cancellations, we would have to seriously consider utilizing built-in, make-up days.”

Make-up days due to inclement weather were approved by the Glynn County Board of Education for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school year calendars on Feb. 13.   Changes to the two approved school year calendars, which have the traditional starting day set for the second Thursday in August, include making Nov. 19-20, 2018 and Dec. 20, 2018, as well as Nov. 25-26, 2019 and Dec. 19, 2019, weather make-up days.

The calendars can be found under "School Year Calendars" on the “Parents” tab of the district website.
