FREDERICA ACADEMY EMPLOYEE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING THREATS OF VIOLENCE
On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, the Glynn County Police Department received a report from a Security Officer at Frederica Academy that an employee had made some concerning threats. The employee, 39-year-old Glynn County resident Daniel Jonas, was employed as a part-time IT employee at the school. According to school officials, Mr. Jonas has sincebeen terminated.
On Tuesday, Mr. Jonas was angry about a variety of issues and made threats of committing violence against people. Although the threats were generalized and not made against a specific person or group of people, officers were deployed at the school for security out of an overabundance of caution. Mr. Jonas also suggested he would like to commit violence against a former President of the United States if given the opportunity.
Mr. Jonas was located, evaluated, and transported to a mental health receiving facility. A warrant for Mr. Jonas’ arrest has been issued for Disorderly Conduct. The Glynn County Police Department is working with the United States Secret Service during this ongoing investigation.
