Representative Jason Spencer has resigned in the wake of his appearance on the Sacha Baron Cohen Showtime show "Who is America?" On the program, Spencer was told he would be involved in anti-terrorist training and that the training would filmed for use in Israel. Instead he was encouraged to make racial slurs and make racial stereotypes, attack Cohen with his exposed buttocks, and cut off the artificial genitalia of a dummy dressed as a "terrorist" and biting it. Spencer engaged in the activities without seeming to express reservations. In a letter sent to House Speaker David Ralston late last night, Representative Spencer tendered his resignation effective July 31.
