Rajeshkumar Patel, an employee of the Stay Express Inn & Suites motel on the New Jesup Highway, was shot in the arm during a robbery about 11:45 Friday night as he walked the motel property. Patel described his assailant as a heavy-set black male in a two-tone SUV armed with a handgun. Patel told police the man got out of the SUV and demanded his money, during which Patel was shot. Patel was taken by ambulance to the Southeast Georgia Health System in stable condition and then transferred by ambulance to UF Shands in Jacksonville. The vehicle, which was possibly black and silver, may also have been occupied by a white female and another male of unknown race.
