Glynn County has received a draft of the preliminary audit of the Superior Court Clerk’s office. County officials stressed that these are preliminary findings and could change when the final report is issued. This audit covers eight years between 2008 and 2016, which is several years longer than the time frame covered by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s audit. As of the preliminary audit report, the total amount missing from the Clerk’s office is about $1.19 million. However, as county officials stressed this number could change. The GBI is handling the criminal investigation as the theft occurred in the office of a constitutionally elected officer who is not accountable to the Glynn County Commission or administration. Once the audit document is final, it will be utilized in efforts to recoup the missing money.
