The JWSC started their official water and sewer service cutoff program yesterday morning with just under 140 accounts earmarked to lose service. The utility has been making an effort to reduce past due balances and since last October the number of accounts in arrears has dropped by 15%. Of the total outstanding $3 million balance, $2.3 million is in the City / Mainland district and 42% of those accounts are in the City of Brunswick. According to Jay Sellers, 22% of all accounts are past due. The goal is to see this total reduced to between 3% and 5% of all accounts.
