IPC Workshop Focuses on Frederica Oaks

In the first of what chairman Patrick Duncan said would be monthly work sessions, the Island Planning Commission heard a presentation last night from architect Robert Urssery about the Fifty Oaks residential development off of South Harrington Rd. behind Bennie’s Red Barn on St. Simons. The preliminary plat will likely be presented for action at the regular IPC meeting later this month. The IPC talked about it last night in part to determine what additional information the commission wanted before the regular meeting. IPC member Stan Humphries voiced concerns about the amount of traffic the development would generate on South Harrington. and Frederica Roads. Key points that came up were - the Planned development text allows 64 units on just over 12 acres. That has been reduced to 54 units. Three acres of commercial property along Frederica Rd. has been removed from the plan and donated to the St. Simons Land Trust.
