Coast Guard Station Discussed; Surf Sailors Speak

During a discussion of the plan to renovate the Coast Guard Station beach parking lot during their work session yesterday the consensus of the County commission was to figure out a way to accommodate the St. Simons Surfsailors allowing them to retain space adjacent to the parking lot. Both the Surfsailors and the Coastal Georgia Historical Society  made presentations. While the Historical Society’s updated plan included an area for the Surfsailors, the Surfsailors said it did not provide adequate space, They also said the plan’s provisions for dropping of sailboats were not workable. The Surfsailors offered their own version of a compromise. In the end the commission asked the two groups to meet and work out a compromise and bring it to the commission’s regular meeting on Thursday, April 19 for an up or down vote.
