The county finance committee recommended approval of a contract for engineering and design services for road improvements to the East Beach Causeway on St. Simons to EMC Engineering Services of Savannah. The contract includes the design of roundabouts at both ends of the East Beach Causeway - at Ocean Blvd. and Demere Rd. They also recommended approval of a contract for engineering and design services for road improvements to the Kings Way / Frederica Rd. intersection. This contract includes two design options - one for a roundabout, the other for additional turn lanes and upgraded traffic signals. Island commissioner Dr. Peter Murphy has said he’d like to see the different options and the impact they would make on the intersection along with projected costs.
