Ferry From St Simons to Jekyll Discussed Before Commission

Stephen Williams of the Anchor Shipping Group spoke to the county commission during their work session Tuesday about operating a ferry service between St. Simons and Jekyll Islands. His request was to attach a floating dock to the village pier at the end of Mallery St. for the ferry to load and unland passengers. He said his company would pay to build the floating dock but they wanted exclusive use of it. He also wants to operate a trolley service around the south end of the island, in conjunction with the ferry, for public transportation as opposed to sightseeing tours. The commission consensus was in support, so they instructed the county attorney to look into the possibilities, start work on an agreement with Williams and report back.
