School Board Adds Original Altama Location to Mix

The Glynn County Board of Education has not decided on a location for the replacement Altama Elementary School, but a new location has been added into the mix. During their facilities meeting Tuesday the board decided to consider the current Altama Elementary site along with the Habersham site and the Anderson Pasture site. The current Altama site includes 18 acres behind the school which could hold an elementary school like Sterling Elementary. Because it backs up to a remediated Super Fund site owned by Hercules / Ashland, and approximately five acres of the school site was remediated in 1999 as part of the Superfund Site, the board wants to be cautious with environmental due diligence before moving forward with any decision.
