Jekyll Creates New Festival From Shrimp and Grits and Tree Lighting

According to the Jekyll Island Authority, income provided by the Island’s annual Shrimp and Grits Festival, which was canceled due to Hurricane Irma, took a $400,000 hit this year. To make up for the lost revenues and to help those who usually participate in the festival, plus the Island’s hotels, the JIA marketing department has announced a one time only event that merges some of the elements from Shrimp & Grits and the Tree Lighting celebration into a new, two-day event called Merry Shrimpmas. The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving and will culminate in the annual Christmas tree lighting celebration.
