Sheriff Warns of Scam on Local Residents

The Glynn County Sheriff’s office wants residents to beware of a scam requiring payment for a failure to appear in court for a summons. The scammer identifies himself as an officer, gives the victim a prior address where the summons was delivered. When the victim says he didn’t get the summons, the scammer tells the victim he owes for contempt of court fines. The scammer says the fines will be reimbursed by the Sheriff’s office once the correct address is proved. A Glynn County victim was recently scammed for $1,840 in Green Dot cards that they read over the phone to the scammer. Sheriff Neal Jump said his office never threatens arrest nor demands payment of fines or any personal banking information over the phone.
