JWSC: Generators Costly

According to a report received by the Joint Water and Sewer commission at yesterday’s meeting, the cost to outfit their lift stations with generators is between $15 and $20 million. Currently, 20 sewer lift stations have generators, leaving 140 without. The lift stations will require more expensive industrial generators as opposed to commercial or residential models. Adding to the expense is the need to protect them from the salt water environment with marine grade coatings. Also, in some cases land would have to be purchased adjacent to some lift stations to house the generators and some would have to be elevated - all factors adding to the cost.
