JWSC Awards Contract to Monitor Inflow

In other JWSC news, the utility also approved a $311,000 contract with McKim and Creed consultants to monitor storm water inflow and infiltration into the St. Simons sewer system. The information provided will help the JWSC pinpoint where they need to focus their efforts to correct the I & I problems. Storm water getting into the system is a major drain on the resources at the island’s wastewater treatment plant. The plant is currently permitted to treat 4 million gallons a day, but could treat 5 million if permitted. The EPD won’t issue a permit for that amount until the I & I issue is dealt with.
