Firearms Convict Goes Back to Jail

Chief U.S. District Judge J. Randal Hall revoked Dennis Mitchell’s probation this week sending him back to prison for 14 months. Mitchell was out after serving 10 years in federal prison on a firearms conviction. Hall ruled that Mitchell violated his parole by using drugs and, on March 9, violated his curfew and obstructed officers when he was spotted prowling outside an apartment complex. Also, if a police witness had been told the hearing was moved up a couple of hours and had testified that Mitchell had a gun in his possession at the time of the arrest, an additional seven months could have been added to his sentence.
