Tax Increase to Be Lower Than Projection

The final tax digest is in and Glynn County has proposed raising the maintenance and operation millage rate by 1.71 mils from the current 5.673 to 7.383 mils in Districts 1-5. This is a bit lower than the 2 mil increase that was projected during the budget process. The last significant millage rate increase in Glynn County was in 1989 and the rate has been reduced nine times in the last 28 years. Public hearings will be held on Thursday, August 17th and 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse. A third will be held Tuesday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Casino Building on St. Simons.
