MPC Gives Thumbs Up to New Development Off Buckswamp

The Mainland Planning Commission recommended approval of a portion of the Planned Development text for the 3,344 acre Peninsula at Golden Isles tract off Buckswamp Rd. in south Glynn. The changes include a modification with the Joint Water and Sewer Commission to allow septic tanks. A sporting club will be allowed as an alternate use. In addition, the proposed number of dwelling units will be reduced and a portion of the land will be placed under a conservation easement.

In a related story, tomorrow night during their regular meeting, the County Commission will consider an application for the abandonment of all the roads and drainage easements in Phase 1 of the Peninsula at Golden Isles Subdivision. The board will also consider a sewer variance for this property which would allow individual septic systems for about 1,500 homes.  The JWSC currently does not have sewer capacity in this area for this many homes. The Planned Development test approved last night by the Mainland Planning Commission will still have to be approved by the county commission at a later date.
