JWSC Questions Involvement in Salt Water Intrusion Study

The Joint water and Sewer commission’s facilities committee wants more information about what they are getting for their money in the U.S. Geological Survey’s Salt Water Intrusion Study of the Floridan Aquifer. The USGS has been studying the salt water plume under Brunswick since the 1950s or 60s. They are currently asking the JWSC for $129,000 for the local share of funding. The USGS puts in $110,00. Doing some very rough, estimated calculations, JWSC chairman Don Elliott figures they are paying about $60 an hour for the study. The JWSC wants a little more information before agreeing to spend the money again.
