The city’s Urban Redevelopment Agency voted yesterday to move forward with the original plan to build a hotel and conference center on the downtown Oglethorpe property. Their attorney reported that the lone responder to their request for proposals for the Oglethorpe project, Jim Kaufman, was no longer interested. URA members Al McKinnon and Brad Brown both felt the Agency had dragged its feet and missed a good opportunity with Kaufman for downtown development.
