The County Commission deferred the hiring of a part time employee to act as a director for the Coastal African American Historic Preservation Commission at Selden Park duringTuesday’s work session. When the County created the African American commission in 2013, Commissioner Mike Browning, supported it, but he opposes the hiring an employee saying the commission was formed with the condition that the county would not pay for staff. The African American group’s main proponent, Commissioner Allen Booker said he did not agree to that condition. Since there were only five commissioners at this week’s work session, Booker asked that the item be deferred.
