Last week the Glynn County commission sent the proposed St. Simons Tree Ordinance back to the ad hoc committee that wrote it for revisions. After about 2 hours of debate during Thursday’s meeting, a motion to approve the ordinance by Island Commissioner Dr. Peter Murphy failed on a 2-5 vote with only Commissioner Richard Strickland supporting it. A second motion to defer it back to the committee followed and was approved. No one opposed the idea of a tree ordinance, the majority just felt the proposed version was too restrictive.
