Okefenokee Swamp Fire Grows

Lightning started a fire last Thursday in the extreme southern portion of the Okefenokee Swamp and has quadrupled to almost 3,800 acres according to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. No structures have been burned and no homes are in danger but the fire is close to refuge boundaries and neighboring private land. The Georgia Forestry Commission and Florida Forest Service are working the fire with more resources on the way.
