About 30 concerned clients of the Sapelo Insurance Agency showed up before noon yesterday at the McIntosh County Sheriff’s office to ask about the status of their insurance. Dennis C. Avera of Sapelo Insurance was arrested Tuesday morning on three counts of insurance fraud after spending clients’ premiums for personal use. After a search of his home found illegal drugs, Avera is charged with felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and three counts of the illegal possession of three prescription drugs and two misdemeanors for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.
