Court Update and Adkins Case Modification

After pleading guilty to one count of child molestation, 67 year old Samuel Waid Hunter began serving a seven year sentence in State prison last week, after which he will serve 13 years probation. The incident occurred last August in a motel on Hwy. 17 in Brunswick. In addition, 28 year old Brandon Ferrell entered guilty pleas on Fridayfor burglaries committed last October at the Twin Oaks BBQ and Dollar General on Norwich St. He was sentenced to two years and one day in prison, followed by eight years probation.There was also a modification last week in the timeline regarding a possible trial for the Rev. Kenneth Adkins. Motions are now due March 3 with a hearing scheduled for March 13 at 10:30 a.m. Should the case make it to trial, jury selection is scheduled to start April 3 at 9:30 a.m.
