Glynn County has received the first draft of the audit of the money missing from the Superior Court Clerk’s office but has not yet released the details. A Georgia Bureau of Investigation audit in 2016 found that $673,000 was missing. At the time the county commission decided to hire their own auditor and expand the time frame of the audit to include several additional years. In January 2015, the former clerk’s office bookkeeper Larry Morten was fired for misappropriation of funds. Morten was subsequently charged last November with 70 counts of alleged theft by taking from the clerks office, which added up to roughly $76,000. County officials say the audit may be released today once the commissioners have had a chance to review it.
