Spring Break Brings Visitors to St. Simons

Spring break is in full bloom and happening on St. Simons Island as visitors flock to the Mallery St. pier village area to take in the sights and visit local attractions like the Lighthouse and pier and the restaurants. According to the president of the Golden Isles Convention & Visitors Bureau Scott McQuade spring break is one of the vital times of the year for local businesses, especially as they come out of the slow winter season. McQuade says the island’s popularity as a spring break destination has grown in recent years. A 2016 study by the state Department of Economic Development found tourists spend about $422 million annually in Glynn County and contribute nearly $12 million in local taxes. McQuade believes that number could be higher if you count direct and indirect spending.
