Arrest Made in Death of Local Teen

From Glynn County Police and Georgia State Patrol:

On Monday, February 4, 2019, at approximately 6:45 A.M. the Glynn County Police Department responded to Lakes Drive near Baumgardner Road in reference to a death investigation. Officers arrived on scene to find a male on the ground deceased. Evidence on scene indicated the person had been struck by a vehicle. The deceased is identified as 15- year-old Jacob Butts, a student at Glynn Academy.

The Georgia State Patrol responded, along with the Glynn County Police Investigations Division. The incident has been investigated jointly by Investigators with Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) and the Glynn County Police Department’s Investigations Division. As a result of the investigation, 21-year-old Glynn County resident Madisyn Culpepper has been arrested by the Georgia State Patrol and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury or Death, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

Miss Culpepper was involved in a collision last evening at approximately 10:30 P.M. at the intersection of Baumgardner Road and U.S. Hwy 82. At that time, she was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. A state administered chemical test conducted at the time of her arrest showed her blood alcohol level at 0.22. It is believed, based on the investigation thus far, that Miss Culpepper struck and killed Mr. Butts just prior to causing the collision on U.S. Hwy 82.
