Mother of Missing 5-Year-Old in Florida Now Considered 'Person of Interest'

The mother of a missing 5-year-old girl in Jacksonville, Florida is now considered a "person of interest" in the case, authorities revealed this week.

Taylor Rose Williams, 5, was reported missing by her mother last Wednesday, prompting officials to issue an Amber Alert and launch a frantic search for the girl, with officers knocking on more than 600 doors in an attempt to gain any information on the child's disappearance.

However, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said the mother, Brianna Williams, has ceased working with investigators after they pressed her on "inconsistencies" in her statement about her daughter's disappearance.

"She is a person of interest in this case and we still need her cooperation in our efforts," Williams said. "And we're still asking for the public's help with providing us any details related to Taylor's whereabouts."

Williams said Brianna Williams was the last person to have seen Taylor. It's unclear when anyone other than Brianna Williams last saw the 5-year-old alive.

The mother originally told police she discovered Taylor was not in her room at their home in Brentwood, when she went to check on her Wednesday morning. She also told authorities that she'd found the back door to her home unlocked.

According to a post from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the public is being asked to call police if they spotted Brianna Williams and Taylor traveling between Jacksonville and Alabama over the last two weeks while possibly driving the mother's black 2017 Honda Accord.

Taylor is described as being 3 feet tall, 50 pounds, and was last seen wearing purple and pink pajamas. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered by Florida Crime Stoppers for any information about the whereabouts of Taylor.

"The information that drove us to Alabama demanded this kind of response and we absolutely hope to find her alive," Williams said.
