The Glynn County Commission approved a Special Use Permit for an event venue on Lawrence Road the north end of St. Simons during their meeting last night. Roughly equal numbers of people spoke for and against the permit including two candidates for the At Large Post 1 seat on the County Commission. Candidate Jane Fraser spoke against the permit saying the event venue was not an appropriate use for that piece of property. Candidate Julian Smith spoke in favor of the event space saying the permit application was excellent and that with all public parks on the island, a private green space was a good idea. He mentioned he was running for the county commission saying he would not betray developers. The SUP was approved on a 5-1 vote with Dr. Peter Murphy voting against it.
