Update on Highway 99 Fatality

Updating a story we reported yesterday, about 3:00 Wednesday afternoon Glynn County Police Officers responded to an accident on Highway 99 near Prescott Way about a quarter mile west of Hwy. 341. The preliminary investigation revealed 53-year-old Rodney Aldridge of Blackshear was traveling west on 99, driving a Freightliner semi tractor towing a log trailer, when he crossed the center line sideswiping 63-year-old Brunswick resident Allen Griffin who was traveling east on a motorcycle. The semi then hit 29-year-old Savannah resident Christopher Shaffer head-on, who was also traveling east, driving a Ford F-150 pick up truck. The semi driver, Aldridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. Griffin was taken to the Southeast Georgia Health System by ambulance, and then flown to UF Health Shands in Jacksonville. Shaffer was transported to Memorial Health in Savannah. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing by the Glynn County Police Special Services Division. If anyone has information that could aid investigators, you are asked to call 912-554-7800.
