According to Police Chief Matt Doering, officers were called to the Clarion on New Jesup Highway around 1:51am because of a fight that was taking at the hotel. While they were investigating, they heard gunshots at the nearby Super 8 Motel. They confronted three armed people in the parking lot of the Super 8 and detained them.
Officers seized three firearms and multiple spend bullet casings. One person was grazed by a bullet I the leg. No other injuries were reported. The preliminary investigation found that a gunfight did indeed occur in the parking lot of the Super 8. More than two dozen rounds were fired.
Police don't know if this incident was related to the fight call at the Clarion. No charges have been filed, but detectives continue to investigate.
