Okefenokee Fire Continues; 8% Contained

The West Mims fire continues to burn and reached the 100,517 acre mark yesterday and is 8% contained. There are 468 personnel assigned to the fire, along with five helicopters, 53 wildland fire engines, five bulldozers, 34 tractor plows, two interagency hot shot crews and various overhead and support positions. Despite Monday’s high winds, little fire growth occurred due to high relative humidity and limited fuel availability in the fire path. Scattered showers driven by a cold front brought one tenth of an inch of rain to southeastern areas of the refuge yesterday.
